Question: while louis xvi and marie antoinette were getting married.. what was happening to the people outside?

so what was happening to the people outside the royal court during their marriage?

Answer: The French and Indian War ended in 1763. Louis and M-A didn't marry till 1767. So that's not it.

France still practised feudalism in the 18th century. The nobles and clergy enjoyed special privileges. They did not have to pay taxes. The common people did not have power and freedom in politics. They worked hard and had to pay heavy taxes.

Louis XIV had spent too much. His successors did not cut down expenses.

The ideas and writings of Enlightenment thinkers like Montesquieu, Voltaire, and Rousseau became widespread. The French people were inspired to go against their king.

A lot of these ideas came to fruition after Louis became king (1774), but they were "in the air" in 1767.

When one sets upon fashioning and furnishing a room, the one thought that occurs is the mood setting. The dilemma and confusion between an Empire chair and a Louis XVI chair would all seem same. Then the question about the reproductions and antiques arise, mislead – why would some one do that to me?

The primary aspect that has to be determined when furnishing or rearranging in case of a flat is to know whether you want ultimate comfort or simply aim at formality. The room has to be defined by you mentally for the purpose. It has to be known well in hand if it is for a man’s study or family library, living room or a reception room, a boudoir or a bedroom? Minor issues, but they go along way in confirming the interior décor. It is just like getting to know a game of bridge, you learn it gradually. And if you find all the picking, choosing, arranging and rearranging tedious and you have no singular interest in it, it is better to hire the services of an interior decorator.

If you are the kind of person who has a leaning towards formality, comfort and also own a house in a city and country. The task would be simpler as you could opt for summers, holidays and weekends at the country house while the flat or town house in the city could take care of formality.

Each individual is capable of being creative. The subject of the matter is the deep chairs with wide backs and seats, downy cushions, soft springs etc. Bookcases and tables elegantly placed, lights soft and at appropriate places. Beds too can add to the décor according to the taste of the individual in terms twin, single or double beds.

From among the various tasks, the primary job is to choose the right kind of antique belonging to a certain period or periods while getting the blends and combinations correct. Even if you identify the right subject it is sure to have taken a beating due to age, but the unmistakable craftsmanship, color and the purpose of hardiness is unfathomable. For example, in case you want to buy a desk – preferably an antique desk, you are required to visit an antique dealer and when you are certain you have found the right piece suiting and enhancing your décor, then you could ask for your friend’s opinion who is reasonably experienced. When decided, it is mandatory to know the period to which the desk belongs to. It should be the kind that which would give you delight and the dealer too. Most of the antiques are known to have the unique signature of the maker engraved or marked on it. Purchasing an antique is similar to the purchase of a prized pedigree. Referring to books and periodicals would enlighten and educate you further more on the subject. The seeds as an antique would have been sown. When embarking upon making private collection it is suggested that you would have to be constantly on the lookout for rare unique pieces. Although, most of them would reside with museums and private collections, they would definitely deserve a look to determine the kind of make, usage of craft and the hues and colors used. Some of them guard to their antiques with such care and aggressiveness that it is a matter of envy.

“Certainly, it is sure that we are men with different thoughts and views”.

Often a short poem will illustrate your point better than hours and hours of talk. Poems can be inspiring and motivating as well as funny, and they also add variety to your presentation. You must flawlessly memorize any poetry you use. Any stumbles will ruin the effect of the verse. If the verse is long, you may want to consider reading it, but total memorization will have more impact. Poetry, whether funny or not, should be used sparingly in any business presentation.

Always look for the points that a piece of comic verse could illustrate. You normally don’t want to use any kind of humor that does not support the points you are trying to make.

POINT: Get going to achieve your goals. You have the tools, but you must pick them up and use them.

Sitting still and wishing Makes no person great.

The Good Lord sends the fishes.

But you must dig the bait. Anonymous

POINT: Look forward, not backward.

The lightning bug is a brilliant thing

But the insect is so blind.

It goes on stumbling through the world

With its headlights on behind. Anonymous

POINT: Everyone starts at the bottom. That won’t keep you from being great.

Do not worry if your job is small

And your rewards are few.

Just remember that the mighty oak

Was once a nut, like you. Anonymous

Rewrite of the last verse (to make the audience feel superior to me)

Do not worry if your job is small

With rewards you can’t see.

Just remember that the mighty oak

Was once a nut, like me.

POINT: Ride out the tough stuff in life.

When the tides of life turn against you,

And the current upsets your boat,

Don’t waste those tears on what might have been,

Just lay on your back and float. Ed Norton The Honeymooners

POINT: If you have a problem, do something about it.

Life is real,

Life is earnest

If you’re cold,

Turn up the furnace. Herman Munster

LIMERICKS

POINT: Be careful whom you deal with.

There was a young lady from Niger,

Who smiled as she rode on a tiger.

They came back from the ride

With the lady inside,

And a smile on the face of the tiger.

POINT: Are you just coming along for the ride?

A silly young man from Port Clyde

In a funeral procession was spied.

Asked, ‘ho is dead?’ He giggled and said,

‘I don’t know. I just came for the ride.’

POINT: Quit fighting.

There once were two cats in Kilkenny.

Each cat thought there was one too many.

So they scratched and they fit

And they tore and they bit,

Til instead of two there weren’t any.

In the famous words of Marie Antoinette ‘Keep cool when all’s done and said Above all remember, don’t lose your head.’

French Revolution Clergy

French Revolution Clergy
French Revolution Clergy

Question: What were the goals of each of the estates of the estates-general going into the French revolution?

I already know what each estate is : 1 clergy, 2 nobles, 3. all else
what i need to know is what did each want going into the summoning (May 5, 1789).
ok, here is the whole question for the essay i have to write “Identify the major social groups on the eve of the 1789 French Revolution. Assess the extent to which their aspirations were acheived in the period from the meeting of the estates-general (May 1789) to the declaration of the republic (September 1792).

I know the social groups, and I know how it turned out in the end, i just do not know what the aspirations of each were because i cannot find any clear information on this, just generalizations. Any help would be appreciated. :)

Answer: In simple terms...
The second estate primarily wanted to weaken the power of the king over the nobility, and, in turn, increase its own power.Notably, they wanted to ensure that they continued to not be taxed.
The third estate, as represented in the NA, wanted several things: 1. Some degree of governmental authority (they had none), 2. Elimination, or at least substantial decrease, in privilege of the nobility, 3. Recognition of the rights of men. It's important to note, though, that the people representing the third estate were not poor, or even "lower-middle class", rural farmers. The people representing the peasants were largely educated lawyers and other professionals and merchants. Hence, they had more idealistic goals and beliefs (like the belief in natural rights of man). The peasants had far more mundane concerns, mostly having to do with just getting by.
The first estate is even more complicated. The third estate was represented by a mix of priests and high clergy. The priests of small towns often understood, and empathized with, the plight of the peasants and cared for their congregations. As such, many lower clergy fought for the third estate. The high clergy, on the other hand, largely wanted to maintain the strict social order, and thus wanted no change.

There were of course, exceptions in each instance. Abbe Sieyes (I'm not sure of the spelling), for example, was of the high clergy but a leader of the third estate (which he joined). L'Enfant, the famous Averican Revolutionary War general, was also a leader of the third estate, despite being a very rich noble.

best of luck
