The 18th Century is the time period between 1700 and 1799 in historical terms. In Halloween terms, it is a wonderful time period because there are so many uncommon costume ideas that can be inspired by this period. So, if you are looking for a good Halloween costume idea, you should have a look at the books that talk about the European history during the 18th century. To gain inspiration for a royalty costume to wear this Halloween, you will just have to take a look a the wearing apparel worn by royalty or aristocracy in European courts, particularly in places like Russia, France and England.
Obviously, there are a lot of different categories of people; whose clothes may inspire you a 18th century Halloween costume, and not only royalty. During this period of time there were bandits coasting across the water and then robbing ships of various fleets blind.
The freebooter lifestyle was recently explored further in “Pirates of the Caribbean” and the sequels that came with it and it is the reason why pirate outfits are very popular today. Since the means of transportation were very modern during the 18th century, the number of travellers increased, which enabled the bandits to live a very profitable period and this also explains that a lot of history books contain images of bandits garb from this specific period of time.
The 1700’s were also the time of revolutions. During this period of time there was the French Revolution and of course the American Revolution that resulted in the birthing of the United States of America. These events bring about the chance of many excellent historically accurate costumes.
You could dress up as a Member of the Commune of Paris, a Founding Father of the United States; or even a Native American like the dissident Dragging Canoe. The historical events that occured during the 1700’s, and particularly the revolutions, should give you lots of ideas for costumes if you are looking to get something done.
Finally, the general dress during that period of time is also something that can give you ideas for Halloween costumes – long jackets, white crops, boots, tricorne for the men and red, white and blue dresses, corsets, umbrellas or powdered wig for the women. Glamour was surely a large part of the daily fashion during this period of time and if you want to relive the 1700’s through your Halloween costume, you should definitely add a strong touch of fantasy.
Doing your best in the planning and design is the best way to make 1700’s Halloween costumes work for you.
Enjoy your Halloween party!
