Question: Was Marie Antoinette a crappy movie or what?

I though it would be interested in watching something about Marie Antoinette and learn about why she was so well known, but the movie did not really have a good plot and it didn’t explain why the whole crowd outside the palace was mad at her, or show her get in trouble from sleeping with the other guy, show how her life ended (she got beheaded) OR did they say that it was the French Revolution, and just had a big mob wanting to kill her. And there was hardly any talk in the movie. The movie was pretty and it looked nice, but really the story really didn’t portray her life.

Answer: you're supposed to learn all the background in history class. or connect the dots ("queen of debt" is a clue). it didn't show her getting beheaded because that's implied. it did portray her life somewhat accurately, but sofia coppola said that she intended for the movie to be a "history of feelings", which means she wanted to explore how marie antoinette might have felt or said or done at key moments in her life.

Question: Would Marie Antoinette really have loved her daughter like the film suggests?

I’m watching the Marie Antoinette film with Kirsten Dunst, and although I know that these Hollywood films tend to dramatise things, they did actually under-play her labour with Marie Therese a fair bit, considering the way Wikipedia portrayed it…so is her scene where she says that the baby is “no less dear to me” because she isn’t a boy, real?

Would she really have adored her baby girl so much in such sexist times?

Answer: She might well have; there's no reason why she wouldn't. She knew perfectly well that the child was less *important* than a son would have been, and that it was still vital for her to produce an heir to the throne. But that's quite different from feeling less love for her. (A mother in those circumstances might well love a daughter more precisely *because* she felt "poor little scrap, nobody wants you but me".)

Question: keds in “Marie Antoinette” movie?

In the middle of the movie, there is sequence where a lot of fancy shoes tried by Marie Antoinette is shown. At some point, for half a second or less I saw shoe that was quite different from the other and it definitely looked line a Keds shoe to me.
Did you notice it too? Or was I dreaming?
If it actually is there, what is the point?

Answer: I'm not sure...haven't seen the movie yet. There could've been Keds though...

Question: marie antoinette??

ok so i just went out and bought the movie marie antoinette. it was fun but had obvious flaws. very obvious. and some bad acting but all in all its eye candy and fun to watch……not really sure about the whole i want candy song in the middle it kind of was to much the other songs were ok but that was just over the top to me. does anyone else have anything else to say about this movie ? good or bad?? and also one more thing what happened to molly shannons character. in the movie when the king dies she and her other female counterpart dissapear completely . who were they and why did they dissappear?

This is what I thought about the movie...........

Having trashed two of the three movies Sofia Coppola has directed (I didn't see Lick the Star, yuck!) what made me think I'd enjoy Marie Antoinette? I'm old and worse yet, a male. Certainly not the demographic Marie Antoinette is aimed at, so I found when I ventured out to my local Cineplex to check out Ms. Coppola's 4th go at directing. I figured to use the theater as my personal screening-room on a Friday at noon. Oops! It was a school holiday and I entered one of the smaller of the 14 "theaters" into a crowd of a dozen or so chatting high school girls. I had mistakenly arrived 20 minutes early so I had an opportunity to eavesdrop on their discussion concerning the ethics paper they were required to write and what they were considering giving up for a week as required by their class. These must have been students at the nearby parochial high school. What public high school has ethic courses? They seemed a perfect audience for a film on Marie Antoinette. The theater continued to fill as film time approached. It filled to approximately ¾ capacity and I was, as best as I could determine, the only male person of my gender.

So why did I think I'd enjoy a film by a director whose films seemed directed by a person with a spoiled child's view of the world? Well, what I'd read about Marie Antoinette resonated close enough with Moulin Rouge, Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge which blew me away. "Lavish imagery and a daring soundtrack set this film apart from most period dramas; in fact, style complete takes precedence over plot and character development in Coppola's vision of the doomed queen" should sound familiar to Moulin Rouge fans.

Well, as soon as the black and shocking pink credits showed up to the sound of The Gang of Four's "Natural's Not In It" I knew I was in the right place. Kirsten Dunst was, in my opinion, a perfect choice. She's beautiful but not too beautiful. She has an aura of mischievousness which worked from start to finish. Ms. Dunst, at the young age of 24 or so, already has a long career in Hollywood. And she was only one of many. From Marianne Faithful, to Judy Davis, to Rip Torn, to Jason Schwartzman, to Asia Argento, to many others perfectly cast.

For me, the film never dragged or bogged down. The sets were beautiful. (What can you say about Versailles and the French countryside?) The food was reminiscent to me of Wayne Thiebaud paintings, but more colorful. The costumes, the music, added to the sense of decadence I think the film aimed for.

Yet Marie Antoinette's character never seemed decadent. Ms. Dunst's openness and delight in all presented to her, came across. Despite her loss of freedom and the difficulty in eventually becoming the Queen of France she was able to "Party On!"

What made the film, for me, exceptional, was how Sofia Coppola was able to make both Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI living, breathing, human beings, rather than grotesqueries. I was moved several times by their connection or lack of the same.

There is a lot to see, hear and experience in Marie Antoinette. It is an accomplished and stimulating cinematic experience. I shall view it as much as I am able. This film has prompted me to review both The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation. The world is certainly in need of feminine perspective and Sofia Coppola has made a statement that she has the potential to be a very Great talent.

While much was made of the fact that Marie Antoinette elicited boos at Cannes, the many favorable reviews attracted less attention. Inspired by Antonia Fraser’s biography, Sofia Coppola fashions a portrait that’s just as dreamy as The Virgin Suicides, her first literary adaptation, and the Oscar-winning Lost in Translation. As for the Dauphin, he’s just a boy, really, with more interest in his key collection than their marriage bed. Should Marie produce an heir, it might be enough to sustain her–since life is nothing but an endless shopping spree–but clouds gather on the horizon as an impoverished populace rises up against their extravagant leaders. Coppola merely suggests what happens next, although history paints a darker picture. Filmed in and around the Chateau of Versailles, Marie Antoinette is a riot of rustling gowns, sparkling jewels, and Manolo Blahnik-designed shoes. Question: What is your opinion on the Marie Antoinette movie?

I know that they left out MANY historical events in the movie but even if you didnt know anything about Marie did you think it was a well made movie still?
Feel free to say anything else you thought about it.

Answer: The 2006 version? Awful. Not only was it inaccurate (actually insulting to the historical figures), frothy and irrelevant, it was truly a badly made film. Hard to believe Coppola could go from Lost in Translation to this. The music was terribly out of place, the acting was horrid, the whole thing was entirely pointless.

Question: Did anyone notice the pair of chucks in the movie Marie Antoinette?

So i was just watching the movie right now, and i noticed a pair of chucks in one of the scenes. did anyone else notice it?
and why do you think they put that in there?
did they think that the viewer’s too dumb and slow?
or is it another one of their ‘twists’ since the movie was filled with bubble gum pop music already.

Answer: According to IMDB, Sofia Coppola has stated in interviews that the shoes were purposely put in the shot to portray Marie-Antoinette as a typical teenage girl, despite the time she lived in.
