Question: If you wanted to re-create Marie Antoinette’s bedroom in Versailles, how would you do so?

The chandelier, bed, table, chairs, paintings, etc.
Not exact size, but, say, the whole room is 2 feet high
What materials would you use?
Help is much appreciated.

Answer: Ha. Sounds like a fancy little dollhouse to me.

Do you have pictures of the bedroom? I assume so. I would simply magnify the details on your printer…or take it to a copy shop and have them blow up the interior pics…then start creating!

You can build the bed out of sturdy cardboard, then find similar fabric at the fabric store and either sew the bedding, canopy, drapes, etc. yourself, or take the blown up picture to a place like Sew What and see if they can sew it for you. I would use lightweight silk/rayon mix for the bedding. Or even chintz. Has to be light weight to drape nicely on such a tiny bed. And my guess is, to find a similar print, you are likely looking at something lightweight.

Create the chandelier by going to decorative craft stores. You can find heavy wire, spray paint it gold and add mini-crystals. OR…if you are lucky enough….perhaps you can find a chandelier Christmas ornament on clearance someplace!! They do make them…I have two that would likely fit your needs quite well. But no, they are not for sale. ;)

If you have close-up pictures of the artwork, simply blow it up and print it out to size on glossy photo quality paper. Then add your own frames. You can find mini-frames at craft stores, as well.

Look for doll furniture the right size on e-bay…they have a lot of it…and simply reupholster it yourself to fit the same style as Versailles.

Good luck and I hope you don’t need to finish this by tomorrow.

Question: Would A teenager like the Palace of Versailles?

Im going to Paris with an 18yrold and 15 yearold. The 15yrold wants to go see the Palace of Versaille but only because she liked the movie Marie Antoinette with the fashion etc, however ive heard that Varsaille is just gardens and i have a feeling she would be bored. Is it worth the travel? How long should we spend there half a day or a whole day?

Answer: Hmm the other posters have pretty much said it all but as a 17yr old who visited palais de versailles a couple of years ago I will say that I really enjoyed it - you might want to go in for half a day because, as with all historic buildings there's only so much teens can take of it lol. But don't forget the queues can be quite long, as is the journey there.

But then, the town itself is pretty nice with some pleasant restaurants, chocolate shops etc so its worth having a wander around there too.

Have fun!

Question: Where can I see actual clothing that Marie Antoinette wore or her belongings? ?

In a museum somewhere? Could her clothing be preserved?

Answer: The Museum Carnavalet in Paris is a fascinating place exhibiting the history of Paris; it also includes some personal items of Marie Antoinette's, including her hair.

One of her shoes is there, too:

There are some interesting pictures here of her last days:

There was an exhibition in Paris earlier this year about the Queen. It included her nightdress:

I think, ultimately, that only fragments remain of her clothes.

Lady Oscar Ending

Below is a video of the ending title of the Japanese TV anime series called Lady Oscar. Lady Oscar is directly translated as The Rose of Versailles (ベルサイユのばら, Berusaiyu no Bara or Versailles no bara), but it is commonly and known as ‘Lady Oscar’. The story and graphics are created by popular Japanese comic book writer, Riyoko Ikeda. It has been adapted into several Takarazuka Revue musicals, as well an anime television series, produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha and broadcast by the anime television network Animax and Nippon Television. The show remains incredibly popular in Italy.

In this ending title, you can see pictures of more characters in the series than in the beginning title. The first picture is of Oscar and Marie Antoinette. Lady Oscar was a female palace guard who was the best at fighting so her job was to protect Marie Antoinette from the beginning when she first arrived from Austria. She was young, very beautiful and also naive. Other main characters in the Lady Oscar series are Andre, Oscar’s best friend, and Louis XVI whom Marie Antoinette married and Count Axel von Fersen whom people suspected having an affair with Marie Antoinette.

Lady Oscar

This video shows the opening of Lady Oscar, a Japanese comic book and TV series about a female warrior named Oscar who was commissioned to protect Marie Antoinette. The Japanese name for the series translates as The Rose of Versailles (ベルサイユのばら, Berusaiyu no Bara). It is one of the best-known titles in shōjo and a media franchise created by Riyoko Ikeda. This story has been adapted into several Takarazuka Revue musicals, as well an anime television series, produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha and broadcast by the anime television network Animax and Nippon Television. The show remains incredibly popular in Italy.

The Rose of Versailles focuses on Oscar François de Jarjayes, a girl raised as a man to become her father’s successor as leader of the Palace Guards. A brilliant combatant with a strong sense of justice, Oscar is proud of the life she leads, but becomes torn between class loyalty and her desire to help the impoverished as revolution brews among the oppressed lower class. Also important to the story are her conflicting desires to live life as both a militiant and a regular woman as well as her relationships with Marie Antoinette, Count Axel von Fersen, and servant and best friend André Grandier.

Through the story of Lady Oscar, viewers can see the life of Marie Antoinette. She was very beautiful and was young when Oscar first met her. She was a naive queen of France. Eventually, she was beheaded. There were many characters in Lady Oscar that actually existed in history.
